The Muller & Bros. Syndicate work shirt is a beautiful homage to the original work shirts of the 1930s & 40s.
As nice as coordinated sets look and were required by many professional jobs, the vast majority of labour workers mixed their pants and shirts. Work shirt separates were made of heavy-duty cotton twill, denim, covert (wool or cotton) or chambray. Blue was the standard colour, with khaki, army green and sometimes black as alternatives. In the early ’20s, shirts could come in thin stripes or small dots, but by the ’30s and onward solid colours were preferred. Contrast stitching in a lighter shade than the body is one unique feature of a work shirt versus a dress shirt. In winter, plaid was popular from the 1940s to the 1950s. Most work shirts had two chest pockets with a button-down flap.
The Syndicate work shirt is a vintage workwear-inspired piece made of 8-oz high-quality stiff Japanese selvedge chambray fabric. The fabric has a unique rugged texture, an amazing hand feel and vintage blue chambray colour. It features triple-needle chain stitching along main seams that ensure durability and black contrast pentagonal rounded buttons. This shirt is painstakingly made down to the last detail.
With a small atelier located in the mountains of Okayama, Muller & Bros. has become a choice brand since the launch of their first collection thanks to that inspiration in American and French workwear, a feature of each one of their garments, and to an incredible obsession with quality, construction and detailing.
