You might have noticed that stonewashed indigo is having a moment right now—again. We're apprehensive about labelling the faded blue a trend, seeing as the process has been around for decades and that it's outlasted the usual menswear cycle. Perhaps contrary to what a denimhead has in mind when buying a denim shirt to wear them down in daily use to give their shirt a unique appearance, at Redcast we also want to offer an alternative for those who would like to have a quality selvedge denim shirt in their wardrobe without having to use it for months to achieve that worn look.
3sixtteen Crosscut Western is a modern take on traditional western shirts. This iteration utilizes a 10oz Japanese selvedge denim and is given a stonewash treatment. In contrast to many other stonewashed pieces that have a highly artificial appearance, the blue colour achieved through washing this 3sixteen is simply astonishing. Thus, when 3sixteen set off to develop the wash treatment for this piece, those techniques were all off the table - no sanding, no laser distressing, no harsh chemicals. Instead, the guys from 3sixteen wanted to ensure that the fabric's character was not only preserved but brought to the forefront, that the beautiful vertical streaking that is characteristic of their denim as it ages would still show through prominently. As a result, this stonewash treatment brings out a beautiful, even indigo hue and darker hints of indigo present on the seams and edges that could not be achieved with normal wear and wash.
The shirt is hefty but soft, perfect for year-round wear. It's finished with pearl snaps, a pewter top button, and selvedge detailing throughout.
Founded in LA by Johan Lam and Andrew Chen over a decade ago, 3sixteen's philosophy is evident in pieces they've developed since 2008: shirts, jackets, basics and accessories all take cues in form and function from their jeans. Fabrics and trims are always chosen for their capacity to develop character with time. 3sixteen aim is that, with diligent wear, the customers are rewarded with something well-aged, never "old."
