Perhaps contrary to what a denimhead has in mind when buying a pair of jeans – to wear them down in daily use to give their jeans a unique appearance, at Redcast we also want to offer an alternative for those who would like to have a pair of quality selvedge jeans in their wardrobe without having to use them for months to achieve that worn look.
The new ONI used jeans are the perfect solution. They are incredibly soft and lightweight. The fabric is 15oz but feels like 12oz, so these are perfect for wearing during the summer months but also throughout the year, especially in places where the summer heat lasts beyond July and August.
ONI wanted to try and create an effect that quite honestly would not be easily achievable through 18 months of natural wear. So Oishi-San worked closely with a small wash house highly regarded for its washes. This pair is bio stonewashed, and all the honeycombs, whiskers and fades have been created by hand. The result is a fabulous pair of washed jeans that look natural instead of artificial. The outfit is so clean when paired with an indigo jacket or just with a solid t-shirt.
The patch is cut from premium deer leather. ONI opted to stitch the leather patch after the stone wash to get the best look. This type of leather has excellent quality properties but shrinks so that it could lose some of the details of the patch design after the stone wash. That will not happens using the machine wash. This process has been costly because the jeans needed to return to the sewing workshop after the washing process.
The jeans are made with all the superior-quality ONI details such as copper buttons, high-quality pocket bags, heavy-duty bar tacks and a new designed cotton ONI label.
The cut is a mid-high rise straigh fit.
The legend of ONI is alive to this day. In recent years Oishi-San has devoted himself to experimenting with widely varying grammages, rough textures, different indigo dyeing techniques and novelty cuts while always maintaining a very limited production and wielding his experience in denim which now goes back more than 60 years.
