The “HM” stands for \u003cstrong\u003ehand made\u003c\/strong\u003e: the reinforcement runs in \u003cstrong\u003emultiple stitching lines\u003c\/strong\u003e at the pocket corners and seams, so the pair does not just look old, it is constructed the old way, and feels it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe fabric is ONI’s \u003cstrong\u003e60XX\u003c\/strong\u003e, and it has its own history. Fifty years ago, Oishi-san took his first job at Levi’s Japan; within a couple of years he was the top salesman in the country, and the reward was a trip to San Francisco and the largest jeans store of the day — at a time when every yard of shrink-to-fit denim Levi’s used came from one place, \u003cstrong\u003eCone Mills’ White Oak plant in Greensboro, North Carolina\u003c\/strong\u003e, open since 1905 and for a century the source of American-made denim. The 60XX is ONI’s look back at that cloth: a \u003cstrong\u003e12oz\u003c\/strong\u003e reproduction of \u003cstrong\u003e1960s denim\u003c\/strong\u003e with the \u003cstrong\u003eslightly lighter indigo\u003c\/strong\u003e of a White Oak selvedge, woven at low tension with the \u003cstrong\u003eslubby, neppy and hairy\u003c\/strong\u003e surface ONI puts into everything. The records burned, so nobody knows how many fabrics Cone made then; this is one interpretation, and the “XX” means what it meant on the originals — extra durable.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eAt 12oz the denim wears comfortably through the year without giving up texture, and because this version is \u003cstrong\u003enot an ultra-low-tension weave\u003c\/strong\u003e, it keeps a little more structure and breaks in with a useful amount of stretch. \u003cstrong\u003eUnsanforized\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eone-washed\u003c\/strong\u003e, so no further shrinkage is expected.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe \u003cstrong\u003e900\u003c\/strong\u003e is a twin of ONI’s \u003cstrong\u003e200\u003c\/strong\u003e: a \u003cstrong\u003ewide straight\u003c\/strong\u003e with a \u003cstrong\u003ehigh rise\u003c\/strong\u003e that sits between the regular straight 288 and the super wide 222 — plenty of room to move, cooler in warm weather, and an easy introduction to wider jeans for anyone coming from a straight leg.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe rest of the details are the house standard: \u003cstrong\u003eONI’s custom copper doughnut buttons\u003c\/strong\u003e, heavy-duty bar tacks, \u003cstrong\u003eraised belt loops\u003c\/strong\u003e, a \u003cstrong\u003epeek-a-boo selvedge coin pocket\u003c\/strong\u003e, cotton-lined front pockets and a \u003cstrong\u003evegetable-tanned deerskin leather patch\u003c\/strong\u003e, with the \u003cstrong\u003ewhite selvedge ID\u003c\/strong\u003e at the outseam.
