The ONI Kihannen is a unique green cast indigo ultra-low tension woven fabric with a vast amount of slub that only Oishi-San can create. It's one of the slubbiest and most beautiful textiles we have ever seen (take a look at our close-up pictures of the fabric). It is highly irregular denim, both in terms of texture and colour. Thinner and thicker cotton threads run through each other, creating one of the most unique textures you will ever felt. The fabric is woven in Japan at a centenary family-owned mill.
The fat white vertical slub yarns look like heavy rain falling through a dark and thick fog effect created by varying thickness of deep indigo warp yarns. The colour reminds us of the deep ocean, with significant variations of dark blue tones with black and green freckles within.
The jeans are made with all the superior-quality ONI details such as black copper hardware, high-quality pocket bags, heavy-duty bar tacks and a custom veg-tanned deerskin leather patch.
The cut is a modern high-tapered fit. The taper is aggressive so that it gives a slim-fitting silhouette while allowing for a lot of space at the thighs with a high rise.
The legend of ONI is alive to this day. In recent years Oishi-San has devoted himself to experimenting with widely varying grammages, rough textures, different indigo dyeing techniques and novelty cuts while always maintaining a very limited production and wielding his experience in denim which now goes back more than 60 years.
