These Washi Pile Crew socks are made of crisp Washi (Japanese paper) yarn, featuring refreshing pile lining. Made out of natural Manila hemp fibre that is also used to make paper currency, the Washi yarn has excellent water-absorbent and moisture-wicking properties. Although it is usually difficult to pile knit Washi yarn, a special machine and artisanal craftsmanship have made it possible.
The sock production in the northwestern part of Nara Prefecture is thus originated from the area’s centuries-long tradition of the weaving industry. And that is why Rototo places more value on manufacturing that requires a lot of discussion with factory craftsmen who preserve the tradition and history. Rototo’s socks can be made only with a combination of the right material, the right machine and craftsmanship. They aim to preserve the tradition inherited from their ancestors.
