The Tanuki shell full cordovan long bifold wallet is a piece of art. It is completely made of Shinki shell cordovan leather, one of the best leathers we can find today around the world.
Shell Cordovan leather comes from the flat muscle (or shell) beneath the hide on a horse’s rump. The leather derives its name from the city of Cordoba, Spain where the Visigoths first produced it in the seventh century.
The leather has been tanned in the prestigious Shinki Hikaku workshop, one of Japan’s most respected tanneries. Based in Hyogo Prefecture, Kobe, Shinki Hikaku has been producing leather since 1951. Specializing in equine leathers, they are primarily known for their Shell Cordovan which takes almost a whole year to produce, using specially selected horsehide from Europe and perfected tanning processes.
The wallet is entirely hand-stitched by Matsumura-San, a renowned Japanese leather craftsman with more than 20 years of experience.
The interior blue suede lining gives it a fantastic look and hand feel.
The Tanuki brand was established in 2016 in Okayama Prefecture. It comprises a small group of great artisans who are passionate about denim and boast more than 30 years’ experience in other brands in the industry. If there is something that characterizes Tanuki garments in addition to its modern cuts, it is the quality and variety of its fabrics, with prime importance given to the best cottons, natural indigo and the application of different types of tension on the shuttle looms when producing the fabrics.
