Many menswear enthusiasts are always searching for a true lightweight basic tee. So we are delighted to announce that Tanuki has created the best one. It can be worn alone with jeans or as the perfect undergarment and is called "Geppaku 月白", which is translated as a white colour with a light bluish tint reminiscent of moonlight.
It comes in the same cut as the other two Tanuki tees but is engineered for breathability and to drape nicely as a base layer. The brand developed a combed yarn (count no is 40). This is high-quality cotton, and during the final spinning process, they remove about 15% to 20% of the short, immature fibres.
Yarns with only long fibres are then aligned in parallel to become stronger and more durable. But the fabric also becomes softer to the touch and produces less fluffing. Two of these yarns are then knitted together to create the Geppaku, which is ideal for summer with its cool shade of white.
The details are slightly different for this one compared to the other Tanuki tees: the embroidered Tanuki 二 (Ni) logo is entirely in blue instead of the usual red and white. But you will find the same chunky blue reinforcement stitches on the sides that Tanuki uses for all their sweats and tees.
Like all the Tanuki fabrics, this material is entirely made in Japan – spinning, rope dyeing, knitting, and processing are all done in a small Japanese mill. This tee is built to last to the highest standard in Japan: finished with chunky blue side seams and reinforced ribs at the neck.
The Tanuki brand was established in 2016 in Okayama Prefecture. It comprises a small group of great artisans who are passionate about denim and boast more than 30 years' experience in other brands in the industry. If there is something that characterizes Tanuki garments in addition to its modern cuts, it is the quality and variety of its fabrics, with prime importance given to the best cottons, natural indigo and the application of different types of tension on the shuttle looms when producing the fabrics.
