After Tanuki released their Yoroi jacket, they have now produced their first non-denim pants using the same fabric. The military has an oft-unacknowledged influence on Japanese brands, so Tanuki got inspiration from one of the most iconic vintage pieces to create this beauty. The Yoroi utility pants feature a very modern silhouette and old-school details that make these a utility marvel you'll want to pack as a regular item time and time again.
This heavy-duty 25oz canvas will never let you down. "Yoroi" means armour and it's a fitting name: this great canvas will last forever. It comes pre-washed and has been specially treated with eco-friendly enzymes which soften the fabric for ultimate comfort straight out of the box. Warp and weft are both dyed in golden brown, you can expect great fades quickly, and while this fabric slowly moulds to your body, the colour will age nicely, but the pants will be your sturdy companion for years to come.
The utility pants are made with all the superior-quality Tanuki details such as black copper hardware; Tanuki logo embroidered back pocket detail and the iconic Tanuki custom vegetable-tanned deerskin leather patch. This garment has been fitted with two large front pockets and two rear cargo-style buttoned pockets for enhanced versatility.
Near the back pocket, there is the embroidered Tanuki 二 (Ni) logo, two parallel lines in Japanese Kanji representing the number 2. The lower line represents the past, tradition, the standard, peace. The upper line represents the future, change, strength. The red and blue colours of their logo refer to Japan's flag, honouring their roots as denim artisans.
The Tanuki brand was established in 2016 in Okayama Prefecture. It comprises a small group of great artisans who are passionate about denim and boast more than 30 years' experience in other brands in the industry. If there is something that characterizes Tanuki garments in addition to its modern cuts, it is the quality and variety of its fabrics, with prime importance given to the best cottons, natural indigo and the application of different types of tension on the shuttle looms when producing the fabrics.
