At their core, hoodies are always a go-to; whether you're layering or sporting as a top layer, they're easy-going and versatile. However, when you add a touch of luxury to that equation, the hoodie becomes even more of a treat. They have the power to elevate an entire fit while offering you unprecedented comfort.
With that in mind, we thought we'd bring you one of the best luxury hoodies out there. The fabric is woven on free-hanging loopwheel machines, an extremely complex and time-consuming manufacturing process that results in an incredibly soft and fluffy texture. This weaving method, also known as "Tsuri-Ami", is done in the Japanese Kanekichi Wakayama workshop, one of only two workshops in the world still keeping in operation after more than 100 years the tubular textile production machines that allow seamless garments to be made. The only tension used in the knitting process is gravity, the end result being a knitted fabric with virtually no inbuilt stress or tension. A loopwheel machine rotates at just 24 revolutions per minute, with only 8-10 garments worth of fabric produced per day. A modern knitting machine in excess of 10 times that. The result is a heavyweight, soft but strong fabric, and the best sweatshirt material made today.
This Japanese masterpiece features two-needle construction and a brushed lining to improve warmth and maximize comfort.
Even though the fabric is thick, it's surprisingly light, but it will keep you warm when the temperature falls; it does a great job blocking the wind. The hood is a nice size and shape and feels sturdy.
The Flat Head is one of the benchmark Japanese repro Americana-style brands. Its founder, Mayashi Kobayashi, is known in the scene for being a die-hard fanatic of 1950s American style. Inspired by the music, motorbikes, cars, architecture of the era, and with a clear rockabilly influence, Kobayashi created in 1996 a truly authentic brand that today has some firm devotees. It stands out for the extreme quality of each one of its pieces. The brand is always very much aware of a curious philosophy that believes that a product is fully finished only after the customer has worn and moulded it to themselves.
