As per usual, the best available version of a classically American thing—in this case, the old-school ribbed watch hats you've seen on WWII naval officers, Boston dock workers, and every third person in every Rocky movie—comes from Japan. UES' Indigo Knit Cap is domestically produced and hand-knitted from 100% hand-picked cotton.
The cotton yarn with thick thread does not exist in readymade; therefore, three sets of separate 3ply Zimbabwe cotton was knitted and combined to produce the thread.
Also, in the hand knitting stage, UES gathered multiple yarns and knitted the paralleled yarn together, which made it possible to produce the product with coarse weave and low gage.
It is indigo dyed after sewn and will fade beautifully with wears.
UES is a small Japanese label founded by Chuji Matsumoto in 1994. UES comes from the English word "Waste", which means that Matsumoto-San wants you to make full use of each garment for as long as possible before discarding it. It is a small judgement of the concept of disposable wear that is so commonplace today in the world of fashion and from which Matsumoto-San disassociates himself completely.
