This timeless rider's leather jacket from Double Helix is meticulously handmade in Japan using tea-core horsehide leather from Nitta. 

The leather:

This beauty is constructed from Semi Aniline Tea Core Horsehide from Nitta, which is often used for rider's jackets. The leather is not dyed to the core, allowing the tea core to become visible on the surface as it ages. This leather is known as "Teacore." It is horsehide leather with a brown undertone beneath its surface, vegetable-dyed using mimosa bark for tannins. Mimosa bark produces a lovely pinkish-brown undertone that permeates the leather through tannin absorption. This pinkish-brown shade represents the leather's natural color before any finishing is applied. It is named "Teacore" due to its resemblance to the color of strong tea.

When the tannery dyes only the surface black, they must include pigment in the lacquer; otherwise, the leather would appear brown. However, excessive pigment can result in a pale black hue lacking transparency, displaying a whitish tint on the surface. To maintain transparency, Nitta's tannery meticulously selects raw leather and adds a minimal amount of pigment to create a supple black in tea core leather for Double Helix. 

This tanning process involves drying and aging stages that can last up to a year. Nitta Tannery, located in Himeji, Japan, has been tanning premium horsehide since 1946. Along with Shinki, another horsehide tannery also located in Himeji, it is renowned for tanning the most unique hides that can be found in the world. Only 2-3% of raw hides even meet the high quality standards double helix uses for its jackets.

Construction:

This jacket is lined with 100% Cupro, a silk-like fabric with a lovely, soft, delicate and luxurious 'touch'. It is made from a cellulose fiber produced by treating cotton.

This is also one of the most durable leather jackets money can buy due to its construction details, such as premium Waldes zippers and buckles. 

Fit:

It features broad shoulders, a reasonably slim chest, and a good taper into the waist. This curved body shape fits perfectly for a modern look. We suggest selecting your regular Japanese leather jacket size for the ideal slim fit. Nonetheless, individual body shapes may differ, hence, we recommend referring to our size chart to ensure a perfect fit.
