Tanuki has created this beautiful jacket using a new limited edition fabric called "Zetto Benkei". This unique material is based on the highly textured Zetto fabric and has a soft mellow yellow beige color derived from the buds of the Japanese pagoda tree. The denim is crafted on an old shuttle loom in Japan, giving it a distinctive irregular surface that is both durable and unique. The design is inspired by the legendary samurai Musashibō Benkei, renowned for his toughness and loyalty. Just like Benkei was a loyal companion, this jacket will be a dependable and stylish addition to your wardrobe.
To achieve the lovely color, Texas cotton is used for the yarns, which are rope-dyed and dipped in pure indigo seven times. The denim is then woven with ultra-low tension, allowing the dark-beige weft to shine through the surface. The dark beige weft provides the denim with a vintage feel and a crisp texture. As the jeans are worn, the contrast between the dark blue and dark beige becomes more pronounced, resulting in unique and interesting fades.
This masterpiece is a modern interpretation of the Type 3 jacket with a longer body, practical side pockets, slimmer arms, and inner pockets, made from our limited Zetto Benkei fabric. It boasts supreme quality and attention to detail. The selvedge line color in electric blue adds a unique and stylish touch. Custom copper buttons and a custom vegetable-tanned deerskin leather patch show the commitment to quality craftsmanship. The jacket also features Japanese extra-durable herringbone cotton-lined fabric in handwarmer pockets, as well as inner pockets for added functionality. The electric blue buttonholes are a subtle yet elegant touch.
The Tanuki brand was established in 2016 in Okayama Prefecture. It comprises a small group of great artisans who are passionate about denim and boast more than 30 years’ experience in other brands in the industry. If there is something that characterizes Tanuki garments in addition to its modern cuts, it is the quality and variety of its fabrics, with prime importance given to the best cottons, natural indigo and the application of different types of tension on the shuttle looms when producing the fabrics.
