Originally introduced by Levi’s as the 507XX, this jacket became a benchmark of mid-century design — and Sugar Cane’s version not only honors the original, but may well surpass it.

Crafted from Sugar Cane’s signature 14.25oz selvedge denim, this jacket is woven on vintage Toyoda shuttle looms using a slow and meticulous process that yields a dense, textured fabric with incredible character. The weaving tension is carefully controlled to create the distinctive irregular surface that vintage denim lovers crave. Over time, this fabric develops a deep, expressive fade — the kind only possible through years of wear.

To recreate the unique, uneven fading of 1950s denim, Sugar Cane uses a blend of American and Zimbabwean cotton, spun into intentionally irregular yarns that mimic the inconsistent twist and slub of vintage thread. The result is a fabric that not only looks authentic, but wears and ages with soul.

Every detail — from the boxy silhouette to the dual chest pockets and pleated front — is reproduced with near-obsessive attention to period-correct construction. It’s a jacket born in Japan, but rooted in the American tradition of durable, purposeful design.

Fit Notes: Despite being a Japanese jacket, we find the sizing of this Type II to be more Western than Japanese. If you usually wear a size M in American jackets, you'll find a suitable fit with this jacket in size 40 (M). However, as always, we recommend consulting our size chart for the perfect fit. It is unsanforized but one washed, so there will be no shrinkage.
