We are excited to introduce the new Asphalt, a heavyweight Japanese selvedge denim masterpiece created by Oishi-san that weighs 20oz and takes the slub and nep concept to the next level. What sets it apart from other denim fabrics is the extreme slubbiness of the yarn used in its construction and the unique neppy surface, making it one of the roughest fabrics we have ever seen. The uneven thickness of the yarn creates an incredibly bumpy and irregular textured surface on the fabric, with rugged white cotton balls or "neps."
Oishi-San is well known for interpreting American workwear staples through his Japanese dystopic lens. More of a character actor than a leading man, this heavyweight coverall will be the most reliable Autumn jacket in your arsenal. It's designed for work—with plenty of pockets and durable construction—and is understated enough to add some depth to everything from a hoodie to a tee. It has one inner and one outer breast pocket and two handwarmer pockets at the waist.
This coverall is made with superior-quality details such as copper buttons and a selvedge hanger loop.
The legend of ONI is alive to this day. In recent years Oishi-San has devoted himself to experimenting with widely varying grammages, rough textures, different indigo dyeing techniques and novelty cuts while always maintaining a very limited production and wielding his experience in denim which now goes back more than 60 years.
