The Japan Blue Sashiko Haori Black is a contemporary take on the Haori (羽織), the traditional Japanese jacket originally worn over a kimono. Japan Blue reinterprets this classic garment for modern casual wear — an open-front layering piece that pairs effortlessly with a white T-shirt and jeans.
The fabric is an 11oz sashiko weave, a traditional Japanese textile construction historically used for crafting durable garments such as budo clothing and firefighter attire before the emergence of modern technical fabrics. The distinctive raised texture of sashiko creates a surface rich in depth and tactile character, setting it apart from standard woven fabrics.
The color is achieved through black rope dyeing, producing a deep, saturated tone that evolves with wear. Over time, the raised sashiko texture catches light and abrasion differently, developing unique fades and patina that highlight the fabric's three-dimensional structure — revealing subtle grey undertones as the black softens.
The Haori features a loose, oversized silhouette designed for relaxed, effortless layering. It comes in one size only. The fabric has been one-washed to eliminate shrinkage.
Fit Notes: This Haori comes in one size with an oversized, relaxed fit. Sleeve length measures 52 cm (approx. 20.5") and back length measures 74.5 cm (approx. 29.3"). The loose cut is designed to accommodate a wide range of body types.
