There's no denying the versatility of blue denim, but the best black jackets for men can rival, and in some cases surpass, the capabilities of their blue counterparts. A well-chosen black denim jacket serves as the ideal foundation for crafting bold and impactful outfits. In recent years, one of the most coveted denim fabrics among Denim Heads worldwide has been Oni’s Secret Denim, and it is now available in a captivating double black version.

First launched in 2012, Secret Denim has become one of the most sought-after denim fabrics by Denim Heads globally, thanks to its unique texture, incredible softness, and comfort. Only Oishi-San can produce this denim, and no one else can replicate it. He uses extra-thick yarns of three different kinds of cotton woven at ultra-low tension on a vintage shuttle loom. The result is a sturdier, extremely knotty unsanforized 20oz fabric with a fantastic slub, roughness, and hairy texture.

The warp and weft use the same yarn as the 20oz indigo version, but they have been sulfur-dyed black for this iteration. Unfortunately, the owner of the workshop responsible for sulfur dyeing ONI's heavy fabrics will retire soon and close the business. This might be the last opportunity to witness the creation of black Secret Denim.

This jacket boasts premium features, including a custom vegetable tanned deerskin leather patch and custom engraved black copper doughnut buttons that enhance its vintage aesthetic.

The cut is a modern Type III fit with side-seam pockets. Despite being a Japanese jacket, like most ONI garments, we find the sizing of this Type II to be more Western than Japanese. If you usually wear a size M in American jackets, you'll find a suitable fit with this jacket in size 40 (M). However, as always, we recommend consulting our size chart for the perfect fit. It is unsanforized but once washed, so there will be no shrinkage.

The legend of ONI is alive to this day. In recent years Oishi-San has devoted himself to experimenting with widely varying grammages, rough textures, different indigo dyeing techniques and novelty cuts while always maintaining a very limited production and wielding his experience in denim which now goes back more than 60 years.
