Inspired by original waist overalls from the same era as the 1936 denim blouse, this model captures the spirit of early American work pants while refining it for contemporary wear.

At the core of the design is Sugar Cane’s 13oz “Standard Denim”, developed through a meticulous process of analyzing vintage garments and recreating their character from the ground up. Using unevenly spun yarns that mimic early, imperfect spinning techniques, the fabric delivers a naturally irregular texture with subtle neps and depth. The result is a denim that feels authentic from day one and evolves beautifully over time, producing rich, rugged fades with a distinctly vintage character.

The silhouette is where this model sets itself apart. Designed with a high rise and a loose, wide leg, it offers a shape reminiscent of traditional work trousers—comfortable, functional, and full of presence. The extra room through the thigh and leg opening creates a relaxed profile that pairs effortlessly with boots or heritage footwear, while also working well with more casual styling.

While original 1930s waist overalls often featured suspender buttons and a cinch back, this version refines the concept by removing those elements for a cleaner, more versatile design. Still, key historical details remain intact, including the crotch rivet and the distinctive center back seam construction (high on the right)—both faithful to pre-war specifications.

Finished with classic five-pocket construction, hidden rivets, a leather patch, and a newly developed green flasher, this model reflects Sugar Cane’s philosophy of creating true “standard” denim—pieces designed to be worn hard, aged naturally, and appreciated over time.

Fit Notes: This model runs slightly small compared to most global American brands, so we recommend sizing up one from your usual size to achieve the intended fit. The denim is unsanforized but has been one-washed, so no further shrinkage is expected. With regular wear, the waistband will stretch approximately 1 inch, allowing the fit to settle comfortably over time. That said, we don’t recommend sizing down, as starting too tight may cause discomfort and alter the intended fit of the garment.
