The Samurai Jeans SIS25-102 Kakishibu Indigo Zip Hoodie is a heavyweight, heritage-driven garment that showcases Samurai’s mastery of traditional Japanese dyeing techniques and uncompromising construction standards. Crafted from Samurai’s original 14.5oz sweat fabric, this zip hoodie is made using 30-count open-end (air-spun) yarns that are rope-dyed in natural indigo and then overdyed with kakishibu, a persimmon tannin dye used in Japan for centuries.

The use of open-end yarn introduces small air pockets within the fibers, giving the fabric a dry, firm handfeel with excellent structure and durability. Unlike softer fleece-based sweatshirts, this fabric has a rugged, almost workwear-like texture that develops character with wear, much like raw denim. The same indigo-dyed yarn is used throughout, including the ribbed cuffs and hem, ensuring visual consistency and long-term resilience.

After indigo dyeing, the garment is overdyed with kakishibu (persimmon tannin)—a natural dye historically used since the Heian period (794–1192). Kakishibu not only adds a warm, earthy undertone to the indigo base but also enhances the fabric’s antibacterial properties and strength. With exposure to air and sunlight, the color will continue to evolve, deepening and developing a distinctive, uneven patina unique to each piece. As with all natural dyes, subtle variations in tone are part of the garment’s character.

This zip hoodie features a full-front YKK double metal zipper, chosen for its durability and smooth operation, and a classic hooded silhouette that balances practicality with heritage styling. Construction is handled using a 4-needle flatseamer, creating strong, low-profile seams that enhance comfort while maintaining exceptional durability. A ribbed fabric “V” gusset at the neckline reinforces the collar area and adds a vintage athletic detail.

Finished with a one-wash treatment, the hoodie offers immediate comfort while retaining its structured feel.
