The Buzz Rickson's BR02881 Field Man's Cap is a meticulous reproduction of a piece adopted by the U.S. Air Force in the mid-1950s — designed to be worn as part of the standard uniform for flight crew and ground personnel alongside the matching shirt and trousers.
The cap is constructed from 100% cotton sateen in the exact same fabric used for the period's issued shirts and trousers, ensuring visual consistency across the full uniform. The color is a regulation Sage Green — an olive-toned military green designated by the U.S. Air Force as the official uniform color for both flight crew and ground personnel. In a considered display of period military efficiency, the same sateen fabric was used for the sweatband and six-panel tape construction, simplifying material sourcing and streamlining production.
Because this cap was adopted for a very short period, surviving originals are extremely rare — making it one of the more distinctive rarities in mid-century military headwear. Buzz Rickson's reproduction captures every construction and material detail of the original, honoring both its history and its craftsmanship.
Fit Notes: Sizing is based on head circumference: size M (7 1/4) fits approximately 57 cm, and size L (7 1/2) fits approximately 59 cm.
