The Buzz Rickson's BR16041 WWII Denim Blouse is a meticulous reproduction of the wartime denim jacket, crafted in Japan from the same rugged 13.6oz selvedge denim used in Buzz Rickson's WWII jeans. As with all garments produced under wartime material rationing, key design modifications were implemented to comply with regulations — the pocket flaps were removed, and the front button closure was reduced from five buttons to four, faithfully reflecting the austerity of period production.
The fabric is a rugged 13.6oz unsanforized selvedge denim with deep indigo warp and white weft. The denim has been one-washed to eliminate shrinkage while preserving its rugged, textured character — the kind of fabric that fades hard and develops high-contrast character over time.
Period-correct details are present throughout. The blouse features iron laurel donut buttons, a vegetable-tanned deerskin leather patch, and visible selvedge detailing on the inner facing. The pleated front (action pleats) enhances mobility, while the stitching on the left and right body panels follows an asymmetrical sewing pattern that reflects the handmade quality of the era. The cuffs are cut on a vertical grain, subtly altering their texture compared to the rest of the jacket. Sizes 46 and 48 feature the iconic T-back construction, just like the original wartime model — another layer of authenticity for collectors.
A "For The Duration" flasher signifies the wartime modifications, and an "E Pennant" emblem pays homage to the U.S. government's recognition of excellence in war production. Copper rivets reinforce stress points throughout the jacket, and a cinch back allows the silhouette to be adjusted at the waist.
Fit Notes: This jacket fits true to size for Buzz Rickson's and most Japanese brands. Compared to most global American brands, a size 42 fits similarly to a standard American Large. The fabric is unsanforized but has been one-washed, so no further shrinkage is expected. As always, we strongly recommend checking our size chart and comparing it with your best-fitting jacket to find the perfect size.
