The Deluxeware 7649C 40’s Native Border Shirt Navy is a truly unique piece built around one of the most technically ambitious fabrics Deluxeware has ever developed. Designed and manufactured entirely in Japan, this shirt showcases an original triple-layer woven heavy flannel, created to deliver depth, texture, and durability that simply cannot be replicated with conventional weaving methods.

The fabric is produced in Nishiwaki, Hyogo Prefecture, one of Japan’s most respected regions for yarn-dyed textiles. Using a rare vintage dobby loom, Deluxeware developed a proprietary three-layer bonded weave construction. While the base of the fabric is a double weave, the Native border sections are constructed as a true triple weave, layering multiple colors and yarn structures to create exceptional dimensionality. The result is a fabric with substantial weight and warmth, yet surprisingly soft and comfortable against the skin.

Although the shirt offers dramatically different visual expressions on each side of the fabric, it is not reversible—the complex structure exists to enhance durability, insulation, and visual depth rather than serve as a two-sided garment. The Native border pattern draws inspiration from early American workwear and Southwestern motifs, interpreted through Deluxeware’s meticulous Japanese textile engineering.

The shirt is cut in a 1940s-inspired workwear silhouette, balancing structure with everyday wearability. Construction is handled at Deluxeware’s own factory in Odate, Akita Prefecture, using a 1960s Union Special triple-needle sewing machine. This results in exceptionally strong seams, subtle puckering over time, and the kind of long-term durability associated with true vintage garments.

Built entirely from 100% cotton, the 7649C offers excellent warmth, breathability, and long-term aging potential. As the fabric breaks in, it develops a richer texture and softer hand while maintaining its bold woven character. This is not a trend-driven piece, but a shirt designed to be worn for decades—an example of Deluxeware’s commitment to fabric innovation, heritage construction, and uncompromising quality.

Fit Notes: This Deluxeware shirt runs very small compared to standard American sizing and fits one size smaller than other Deluxeware shirts. We generally recommend sizing up one size from your usual Deluxeware size, or two sizes up from your usual American size. Additionally, Deluxeware offers USM and USL sizes, which are larger than XL and feature a more regular, less tailored cut. As always, we recommend consulting the size chart to ensure the best fit.
