The Double Helix “Dodecagon” Rider’s Jacket is a refined take on the classic motorcycle jacket, combining timeless design with exceptional Japanese craftsmanship. Handmade in Japan, it delivers a clean, sharp silhouette with premium materials and construction built to last a lifetime.

The leather:

This jacket is crafted from 1.3mm semi-aniline tea-core horsehide produced by Nitta Tannery in Himeji, Japan—one of the most respected leather producers in the world.

The defining feature of this leather is its tea-core construction: the hide retains a brown base layer beneath a black surface dye, allowing the underlying tones to gradually emerge with wear. Tanned using vegetable tannins derived from mimosa bark, the leather develops a distinctive pinkish-brown undertone, giving it depth and warmth as it ages.

To preserve transparency and natural grain, only a minimal amount of pigment is applied during finishing. This ensures a deep, rich black that will evolve over time into a high-contrast patina, unique to each wearer.

The tanning process is extensive, involving long drying and aging stages of up to one year, and only a small percentage of hides meet Double Helix’s strict quality standards—resulting in leather that is both dense, durable, and full of character.

Construction:

The jacket is lined with 100% cupro, a breathable, silk-like fabric that provides a smooth, luxurious feel against the skin while enhancing comfort and wearability.

Built for durability, it features premium Waldes hardware, including zippers and buckles, known for their strength and reliability. Functional details such as zipped side pockets, adjustable waist tabs, sleeve zippers, and a hidden internal chest pocket add practicality without compromising the clean aesthetic.

The overall construction reflects Double Helix’s commitment to precision, resulting in a jacket that is both robust and refined, designed to age beautifully over time.

Fit Notes: The Dodecagon features broad shoulders, a moderately slim chest, and no taper through the waist. We recommend taking your usual Japanese leather jacket size. If you are not familiar with Japanese sizing, as a reference, a size 42 fits similarly to a Western Large. As always, we strongly recommend checking our size chart and comparing it with your best-fitting jacket to ensure the ideal fit.
