The uppers are built from world-renowned Horween Chromexcel leather, prized for its rich pull-up character, deep chocolate tone, and unmatched durability. Chromexcel is tanned over 28 days using a proprietary combination tanning process, resulting in a leather with natural oils that age beautifully and develop a distinctive patina over time.

The sole unit features a USA-made Vibram 1136 Roccia lug sole and heel, providing exceptional traction and longevity under demanding conditions. Inside, an embossed padded leather heel pad ensures comfort for long days of wear.

Construction follows traditional Goodyear welt methodology with USA-made flat welts, ensuring the boots can be resoled repeatedly and worn for decades. Reinforced with Japanese steel shanks and a combination of heavy single, double, and triple stitching, they deliver stability and resilience in the harshest environments.

The silhouette sits on a balanced 1" heel with a 5.5" shaft, built on the John Lofgren 260 last. The profile delivers rugged functionality without sacrificing refinement — at home with raw denim, workwear, and everyday tailoring.

As with all John Lofgren Bootmaker footwear, each pair is handcrafted in Japan, ensuring uncompromising quality from start to finish. Packaged with a Japanese-made John Lofgren Bootmaker box and dust bags, the Chapman Boots are more than footwear — they are heirloom pieces for those who live with a sense of adventure.

Fit Notes: The Chapman Boots are available in a single D width. The last runs large, so we recommend sizing down one full size from your standard US sneaker size or Brannock measurement. If you have wider feet, consider sizing down only half a size. In terms of fit, they are comparable to Red Wing boots (e.g., Lofgren Combat Boots size 9 ≈ Red Wing size 9), and similar to Viberg Service Boots as well.
