Each upper is expertly sewn by a master Japanese craftsman who has worked with the brand since its inception, a testament to the uncompromising quality that defines John Lofgren footwear.

The uppers are crafted from Horween Chromexcel leather in deep black — thick yet supple, sourced from the world-renowned Horween tannery in Chicago. Chromexcel is tanned over 28 days using a proprietary combination tanning process, producing a leather that delivers immediate comfort and long-term durability while developing a rich patina over years of wear.

Built on the engineer last, these boots feature a sleek waist, rounded toe, and carefully considered proportions that create a shapely yet functional profile. They deliver a secure fit across the foot with just the right amount of toe room — striking a balance between comfort and structure. Slip them on and you'll feel the glove-like embrace, complemented by a balanced heel that offers the sure-footed stability of a true work boot.

Construction follows traditional Goodyear welt methodology, ensuring the boots can be resoled repeatedly for decades of wear. Details include Japanese-made steel shanks for arch support, Japanese-made crepe rubber soles and heels for comfortable grip, and an embossed padded leather heel pad for all-day comfort. The silhouette sits on a 1.25" heel with a 6" shaft, built on the John Lofgren 140 last.

Fit Notes: The Combat Boots are available in a single E width. The last runs large, so we recommend sizing down one full size from your standard US sneaker size or Brannock measurement. If you have wider feet, consider sizing down only half a size. In terms of fit, they are comparable to Red Wing boots (e.g., Lofgren Combat Boots size 9 ≈ Red Wing size 9), and similar to Viberg Service Boots as well.
