Shetland wool has always traded softness for character: a lofty, slightly hairy fiber with real warmth and the kind of durability that keeps a sweater in service for decades. Mooncastle's SW1 keeps that character and rounds off its edge by knitting the Shetland together with merino in an exclusive 100% wool blend — the body and resilience of the one, the softer hand of the other, in a fabric that feels light on the shoulders and holds heat the way a proper Shetland should.

The sweater is made by seamless whole-garment knitting: the body and sleeves come off the machine as a single piece, with no seams at the shoulders or sides to bulk up, rub, or give way. The result is a clean crew neck with ribbed cuffs and hem and an even drape all round. Gold is one of ten colors in the range, sitting between mustard and ochre, and it is a shade that reads well against denim and dark tailoring alike. As with all knitwear, allow a variation of 1–2 cm between pieces.

Mooncastle recommends dry cleaning; tumble drying and machine washing will shrink and distort the wool. Between wears, a soft brush keeps the surface tidy, any pills should be removed with a pill comb rather than pulled, and a day's rest after a day's wear will add years to the sweater. Made in Japan.
