This rare collector’s edition from ONI features hand-dyed Awa kakishibu warp yarns and natural undyed (kinari) weft yarns, creating a warm, earthy tone with subtle depth and a soft, organic presence. Kakishibu is a traditional Japanese dye made from fermented persimmon tannin—historically used for textiles, wood, and paper— prized for the way it ages beautifully, darkening and developing character as it oxidizes with sunlight and wears.

The fabric is woven on antique shuttle looms at low tension. The result is a 20oz slubby denim with rich texture and slow, graceful fading that reflects the touch of the craftsperson. The kinari weft adds a natural warmth beneath the kakishibu-dyed warp, giving the denim a quiet, understated complexity that deepens with time and wear.

Cut in the ONI 275 Regular Straight fit, this pair offers a balanced silhouette with a comfortable rise and room throughout—versatile, classic, and easy to wear.

Originally planned for 100 pairs worldwide across both the Sumi and Kakishibu colorways, only 80 pairs in total were successfully completed due to the difficulty of working with natural dyes and Oishi-san’s strict quality standards. This piece embodies tradition, experimentation, and patience—a level of craftsmanship that may never be repeated.

Fit Notes: These jeans have a standard sizing. We recommend choosing your usual size. However, as always, we recommend checking the size chart first to find your perfect size. The fabric is unsanforized, but the jeans have been one-washed, so no further shrinkage is expected. The waist will experience the typical stretching seen in ONI denim due to the low tension weave, although not as much as the secret denim. Expect approximately 1 inches of stretching.
