We are excited to introduce the new Asphalt, a heavyweight Japanese selvedge denim masterpiece created by Oishi-san that weighs 20oz and takes the slub and nep concept to the next level. What sets it apart from other denim fabrics is the extreme slubbiness of the yarn used in its construction and the unique neppy surface, making it one of the roughest fabrics we have ever seen. The uneven thickness of the yarn creates an incredibly bumpy and irregular textured surface on the fabric, with rugged white cotton balls or "neps."
The cut is the ONI's Regular Straight fit. A straight cut with a good amount of space in thighs, knees and calves, thus achieving a very comfortable while classic fit with a medium rise.
*Please note that the "Asphalt" fabric will stretch considerably due to low tension. Therefore, if your jeans feel tight at the beginning, don't worry; after a few wears, you will achieve the perfect fit. Moreover, these Asphalt jeans run smaller than other ONI fabrics, such as Secret Denim. Thus, we recommend going up one size.
The legend of ONI is alive to this day. In recent years Oishi-San has devoted himself to experimenting with widely varying grammages, rough textures, different indigo dyeing techniques and novelty cuts while always maintaining a very limited production and wielding his experience in denim which now goes back more than 60 years.
