The Pure Blue Japan Waterfall Denim Jacket Type III takes the classic Type III silhouette and rebuilds it around an exceptional in-house fabric. The denim is a 14.5oz Japanese selvedge slub woven on low-tension shuttle looms, with two contrasting indigo yarns — one dark, one light — combined randomly through the warp to create a vertical, water-like gradient that flows across the surface of the cloth. This effect is what gives the fabric its name: "Waterfall."

The dark version uses a higher proportion of deep indigo yarns, producing a richer, more saturated tone. The use of strongly slubbed yarns mirrors the turbulent movement of falling water, creating a heavily textured surface with distinct irregularities that give each jacket a unique character from the very first wear. The result is a fabric with the visual depth of a heavyweight and the comfort of a mid-weight weave.

The silhouette follows the classic Type III profile — slimmer through the body than the Type II, with the iconic V-shaped front pleats and pointed flap chest pockets. Construction adds two welted hand-warmer pockets at the waist, expanding the jacket's everyday utility without compromising the heritage proportions.

Details reflect Pure Blue Japan's commitment to refined construction. The jacket features selvedge detailing along the placket, custom-branded iron buttons, a deerskin leather patch, and chainstitch construction throughout. PBJ's signature embroidered leaf emblem at the left side seam completes the package.

Fit Notes: This jacket runs small. Compared to most global American brands, we recommend sizing up one from your usual size for a comfortable fit. As a reference, a size 4 (L) fits similarly to a standard American Medium. The fabric is unsanforized but the jacket has been one-washed, so no shrinkage is expected.
