Each year, Samurai Jeans celebrates one of the twelve signs of the Chinese zodiac, blending Japanese symbolism with the brand's uncompromising approach to denim craftsmanship. For the Year of the Horse edition, the Osaka-based label chose a particularly fitting foundation: the S210XJ — a silhouette inspired by the hard-wearing jeans of the American West and the cowboys who helped shape the early history of denim itself. A thoughtful tribute connecting the Japanese craft tradition to the frontier spirit denim culture was built on.

The fabric is Samurai's renowned 17oz "Zero+" selvedge denim — an exceptional combination of texture, character, and durability. Woven slowly on vintage shuttle looms with indigo rope-dyed yarns, the denim reveals a rich vertical slub structure, nep throughout the surface, and a remarkably deep shade of indigo. As the fabric ages, its pronounced texture gradually emerges — creating the bold, high-contrast fades for which Samurai is renowned.

Every detail reinforces the Year of the Horse theme throughout the garment. Custom pocket bags are made from a sturdy horse cloth traditionally used beneath riding saddles, while the custom goatskin leather patch features the Japanese character wǔ (午) — representing the seventh of the twelve Earthly Branches in the Chinese zodiac. A limited-edition zodiac flasher completes the release.

Construction reflects Samurai's obsession with authenticity. The jeans feature hammered copper exposed rivets, a 5-button "Jin" metal fly with Samurai Jeans embossing, raised belt loops, signature yellow contrast stitching, and Samurai's iconic red and silver lamé selvedge ID — stitched closed for a refined finish. A fifth-pocket selvedge detail and Samurai's original back pocket stitch round out the package.

The silhouette is Samurai's "Saddle Slim" fit — combining a medium rise with a clean, slightly tapered straight leg. Balanced, refined, and easy to wear.

Fit Notes: This model runs small. Compared to most global American brands, we recommend sizing up one from your usual size for the intended fit. The denim is unsanforized but has been one-washed (rinsed), so minimal further shrinkage is expected. With regular wear, the waistband will stretch approximately 1 inch, allowing the fit to settle comfortably over time.
