Made from Samurai’s proprietary Japanese cotton, these sweatpants are knitted using an uneven #10 slub yarn, spun in the same manner as the brand’s legendary 17oz “Zero” denim, resulting in a fabric with exceptional texture, depth, and character rarely seen in sweatpants.

The Kuromame colorway is naturally dyed using the juice of black soybeans grown in Sasayama, Hyogo Prefecture—a byproduct that is typically discarded. By repurposing this material, Samurai creates an organic, eco-friendly dyewith subtle tonal variation and a uniquely earthy presence. The result is a deep, natural shade that feels alive, evolving gently with wear rather than fading artificially.

This fabric is woven in Wakayama on vintage looms, allowing the slubby yarn to express its full texture, and sewn in a traditional workshop in Kyoto, ensuring meticulous construction. The cotton itself is harvested entirely by hand as part of the Samurai Cotton project—Nogami-san’s long-term obsession with preserving Japanese cotton production. Grown without fertilizers or pesticides, and carefully tended through typhoon season, this cotton delivers an exceptionally soft handfeel with remarkable durability.
