Woven from a custom-developed 14oz sashiko selvedge fabric, the denim is engineered to replicate the dense, textured surface typically associated with hand-stitched sashiko. By increasing the weave density to an extreme level, Studio D’Artisan achieves a material with a rich, almost knurled texture, delivering both visual depth and a uniquely tactile feel.

The yarns are dyed using the traditional kase-zome method, with both warp and weft threads dyed through to the core using a high concentration of indigo. This results in a deep, vivid indigo tone with exceptional saturation. Unlike conventional denim, the aging process unfolds differently—revealing layered, nuanced fades that highlight the fabric’s intricate structure rather than sharp contrasts.

Cut in a regular straight silhouette, the fit follows Studio D’Artisan’s classic SD-101 profile, offering a balanced shape with a mid rise and comfortable room through the leg. It’s a timeless cut that complements the fabric’s character, making it easy to integrate into both casual and more heritage-focused outfits.

Details reflect the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship, with custom copper rivets, original buttons, and a button fly construction. Subtle touches such as off-centre belt loops and a specially designed leather patch and flasher reinforce the limited nature of this release, while emphasizing its strong Japanese identity.

Fit Notes: This model runs slightly small compared to most global American brands, so we recommend sizing up one from your usual size to achieve the intended fit. The sashiko fabric is unsanforized but the jeans have been one-washed, so no further shrinkage is expected. With regular wear, the waistband will stretch approximately 1 inch, allowing the fit to settle comfortably over time. That said, we don’t recommend sizing down, as starting too tight may cause discomfort and alter the intended fit of the garment.
