The Studio D'Artisan 5736 Choju Open Collar Shirt is an open-collar shirt crafted from D'Artisan's original humorous fabric, which reproduces Japan's traditional dyeing technique known as kasuri through advanced printing. The motifs are drawn directly from the "Choju-giga" (Bird and Beast Caricature) — said to be the oldest manga in Japan, created roughly 1,200 years ago.
Animals such as rabbits and frogs are vividly and humorously depicted across the fabric, alongside the figure of a pig — Studio D'Artisan's signature symbol — playfully integrated into the composition. The caricature is reconstructed with a delicate touch, telling its story through imagery alone, just as it has for over a millennium.
The printed kasuri is so finely executed that it can easily be mistaken for genuine woven kasuri. It is currently produced by the only workshop in Japan still capable of this technique, where every step — from thread preparation to weaving and die-dyeing — is completed by hand by skilled artisans.
Construction details reflect Studio D'Artisan's commitment to quality. The shirt features natural tagua nut buttons ("corozo"), prized for their organic appearance, density, and scratch resistance. The open collar silhouette gives the shirt a relaxed, easy profile that pairs effortlessly with denim, chinos, or summer trousers.
Fit Notes: This shirt fits true to size for Studio D'Artisan and most Japanese brands. Compared to most global American brands, a size 42 fits similarly to a standard American Large. We recommend taking your usual size for a comfortable fit. As always, we strongly recommend checking our size chart and comparing it with your best-fitting shirt to find the perfect size.
