Inspired by traditional Japanese textiles — noragi, boro, and sashiko — the shirt combines a classic American work shirt silhouette with an intricate cloth developed in-house, offering a distinctive take on a heritage staple.

The fabric is a medium-to-slightly heavyweight indigo plaid made from 100% cotton, woven with thick, irregular slub yarns in two shades of indigo to create a rich, deeply textured surface. Over this plaid base, white 65% cotton / 35% polyester yarns are randomly applied in both horizontal and vertical directions, producing a sashiko-inspired stitched effect built directly into the weave. Because the pattern is integrated into the fabric structure itself — rather than printed on the surface — the material has natural depth, subtle tonal irregularity, and a distinctly textured, uneven surface that reflects its artisanal character.

The fabric has moderate body and a dry hand, while still retaining a supple feel — versatile enough to be worn on its own, layered under a jacket, or styled as a light shirt jacket during transitional seasons. It has been one-washed to help minimize shrinkage, and will gradually break in with continued wear and washing.

Construction follows a classic work shirt layout. The shirt features long set-in sleeves, a full front button closure, and a regular collar with a collar stand for a clean, structured appearance. The cuffs have an adjustable two-button design, while sleeve plackets are left unbuttoned for easier wear. Two open-top chest patch pockets with rounded lower corners — each secured with a natural corozo nut button — add practical utility, while the back is finished with a double-layered yoke for durability. The hem is cut in a rounded shirttail shape with reinforced side gussets, completing a piece built to last across years of daily use.

Fit Notes: This shirt fits true to size for Studio D'Artisan and most Japanese brands. Compared to most global American brands, a size 42 fits similarly to a standard American Large.
