The Studio D'Artisan D1894 Jeans showcase innovative "Sou-Ai" (Twin Indigo) denim that masterfully combines two distinct indigo variants. The 16oz unsanforized selvedge fabric features warp yarns kase-dyed with a blend of Tokushima Natural Indigo and Pure Indigo (including both redcast and greencast hues), while the natural ecru weft preserves striking contrast. This traditional kase-zome technique retains the yarn's natural slub and irregularity, creating the signature "rain" streak pattern associated with Tokushima dyeing that truly sets these jeans apart. The super low-tension weave produces heavily textured denim that promises high-contrast fading over time.
The regular straight fit offers a medium rise, roomy top block, and full-cut legs for comfortable wear. Premium details include a custom anniversary leather patch, hidden coin pocket selvedge, and blue line selvedge ID. Washed once to eliminate shrinkage while preserving character, this limited-edition release represents Studio D'Artisan's commitment to traditional Japanese dyeing techniques and time-honored craftsmanship.
Fit Notes: The Sou-Ai jeans shrank significantly during the one wash, so they run small. We recommend choosing two sizes up from your usual size, but as always, it’s best to check the size chart. The fabric is unsanforized, but the jeans have been once washed, so no further shrinkage is expected. You can expect around 1" of stretching in the waist.
