The Studio D'Artisan SP-121 represents a revival of their iconic "Amami Dorozome" series, created specially for their 45th anniversary collection. This exceptional Type II jacket merges ancient Japanese dyeing traditions with premium denim craftsmanship. Beginning as 18oz unsanforized double indigo selvedge denim, each jacket travels over 1000 kilometers to Amami Oshima island. There, master artisans apply the centuries-old Dorozome mud dyeingtechnique through an intense and time-consuming process. The result of these labors is a uniquely rich color approaching black while retaining subtle blue and brown undertones – a depth impossible through conventional dyeing methods.
The classic Type II silhouette features adjustable waist buttons, SDA black metal buttons, and engraved copper rivets. Each jacket includes a special "Amami Dorozome" leather patch commemorating this exceptional series. This collection honors the historical significance of Dorozome, traditionally using natural dye from Sharinbai (Japanese Hawthorne) to color kimono silk. The SP-121 embodies Studio D'Artisan's commitment to preserving traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
Fit Notes: Despite being a Japanese jacket, we find the sizing of this Type II to be more Western than Japanese. If you usually wear a size M in American jackets, you'll find a suitable fit with this jacket in size 40 (M). However, as always, we recommend consulting our size chart for the perfect fit. It is unsanforized but one washed, so there will be no shrinkage.
