Fit Notes: These jeans follow true-to-size measurements. While many Sugar Cane models tend to run slightly small, this bootcut version does not, so we recommend choosing your usual size. As always, consult the size chart to ensure the best fit. The denim is sanforized, resulting in minimal shrinkage, and the waist will stretch with wear—typically 0.5" to 1"over time.

The Sugar Cane 14oz Boot Cut Denim is a full renewal of the brand’s classic bootcut model originally released in 2004. For this updated version, Sugar Cane meticulously studied bootcut jeans from the 1970s and 1980s, selecting the most iconic elements from each era. The fabric takes cues from an early 1971 denim, while the silhouette draws inspiration from a 1979 model, blending historical accuracy with an improved modern fit.

The jeans are made from 14oz Japanese denim, woven on vintage shuttle looms but without selvedge. Sugar Cane intentionally chose a non-selvedge construction for one key reason:
authentic bootcut jeans cannot be made using selvedge denim due to the limitations of narrow-width shuttle looms.
The dramatic flare and wider leg opening of a true bootcut would require excessive tapering and pattern compromises if cut from narrow selvedge fabric. To maintain the proper 1970s-style bootcut line, Sugar Cane uses a wider fabric that allows for correct shaping, drape, and movement—staying faithful to the original era.

This 14oz denim uses a blend of Zimbabwe and Texas cotton, double ring-spun for a textured, durable weave. The fabric is sanforized and rinsed, resulting in minimal shrinkage and a clean, broken-in feel that will mold naturally with wear.

The redesigned cut features a slightly deeper rise than the original 2004 model and an exquisitely balanced bootcut leg—not too slim, not too flared—creating an authentic vintage-inspired profile ideal for boots.

Period-correct details include aluminum-foot rivets, a Universal Type 42 zipper, cotton-poly core stitching, and a classic paper patch. A signature touch: the selvedge ID is still present, hidden on the back belt loop as an homage to Sugar Cane’s heritage craftsmanship
