The Super "Denim" Collectibles series by Sugar Cane is a meticulous exploration of vintage denim history, brought to life under the guidance of denim expert Yuichi Fukutomi and renowned collector Shigeki Wakiya. Each piece in the capsule is based on ultra-rare deadstock garments and reproduced in original “golden sizes,” capturing the individuality and character of the originals with unmatched precision.

This edition revives the extremely rare early 1942 Levi’s 501, a transitional model produced only between April and August of that year. While it resembles the 1937 model, key differences include the “Copyright 1942” flasher, the presence of the back strap and crotch rivets, and iron concealed rivets that replaced the earlier copper ones—changing the flasher text from “CONCEALED COPPER RIVETS” to “CONCEALED POCKET RIVETS.” It also features a black-plated iron buckle found only on this model.

The denim is woven in Japan on vintage shuttle looms, based on unwashed WWII deadstock. This allows for a faithful reproduction of the oxidized indigo hue, residual glue, and irregular texture typical of early '40s denim. Other details include cotton thread, copper-plated button backs, two-needle iron buckles, and a deerskin leather patch—all selected to replicate the look and feel of true vintage.

The fit is high-rise with a classic, straight leg, offering a bold and structured silhouette true to the 1937 and early war models. It’s a utilitarian cut that feels both historically accurate and timeless. Made in Japan for collectors, purists, and anyone serious about denim history.
