Introducing Sugar Cane's 1947 model in black denim, featuring a warp dyed in deep black and a natural weft. This variant offers the same iconic design and meticulous attention to detail as its indigo counterpart, faithfully reproducing the timeless Levi's 501XX 1947 with the original cut and signature elements like the iron buttons and hidden copper rivets.
Sugar Cane meticulously studies and attends to every aspect of recreating vintage denim fabric, including spinning, weaving, dyeing, and stitching. Consequently, their denim has garnered admiration from denim enthusiasts worldwide for its enduring quality, establishing the 1947 model as a timeless classic known for its exquisite fades developed over years of wear. The weaving process is deliberate and time-intensive, with vintage Toyoda shuttle looms producing only a limited amount of fabric per day. The weft is forcefully driven in, causing the yarns to overlap, resulting in an uneven surface and a tight weave. The completed denim fabric is dense and substantial, gaining character and depth with each wear. Sugar Cane continues to utilize vintage-based denim production methods, maintaining old machines in optimal condition.
The allure of vintage denim lies in the unique unevenness of color as it wears and fades. To reproduce this effect, close attention is paid to the yarn used in denim production. Sugar Cane utilizes a blend of American and Zimbabwe cotton to create the 1947 denim yarn. The selected raw cotton is twisted into yarn, mimicking the irregular yarn thickness characteristic of vintage denim. To replicate this, the yarn twisting power is adjusted to match the unevenness of the original yarn, resulting in a thread closely resembling Levi's 1947 501XX denim.
The fit faithfully mirrors the original Levi's 1947 501XX, boasting a regular straight fit with a high rise and ample room in the thighs, knees, and calves, ensuring a comfortable and classic fit.
As many other Sugar Cane Jeans, the 1947 Model Black runs slightly small. In general, we recommend choosing one size larger than your usual. However, as always, we recommend checking the size chart first to find your perfect size. It is unsanforized but one washed, so there will be no shrinkage.
Although Sugar Cane was born in Japan, its spirit and creation are true to proper American manner from the experience learned at the Army base.
