This Tanuki Type II jacket is crafted from the brand’s 15oz Indigo x Indigo selvedge denim, a richly textured fabric with both warp and weft rope-dyed in deep indigo for striking tonal depth and bold fades. Woven with a low-tension technique, this denim offers excellent breathability, a soft hand feel, and fast, high-contrast aging thanks to its irregular slubby and neppy surface.

The cut is a modern interpretation of the Type II jacket with a longer body, slimmer arms, and practical side pockets.. This extra length also allows for the addition of discreet hand-warmer pockets at the hips, adding modern function to a timeless design.

On the shoulder, Tanuki’s embroidered 二 (Ni) logo adds a symbolic layer to the piece. In Japanese Kanji, the two lines represent balance: the lower line signifies tradition and peace, while the upper stands for innovation and strength. Rendered in red and blue, the logo also references the Japanese flag, grounding this jacket in the brand’s identity as denim artisans.

Finished with custom copper hardware, a vegetable-tanned deerskin leather patch, and durable Japanese herringbone pocket lining, this Type III is a refined yet rugged statement piece—built to fade, evolve, and tell your story with time.

Fit Notes: Although it's a Japanese-made jacket, the sizing of this Tanuki Type II is more Western than traditional Japanese fits—consistent with most Tanuki garments. If you typically wear a size M in American jackets, a size 40 (M) in this model should fit you well. As always, we recommend checking the size chart to ensure the perfect fit. The fabric is unsanforized but one-washed, so no further shrinkage is expected.
