The Tanuki Yurai Type II jacket brings new life to a classic silhouette through the use of Tanuki’s innovative 15.5oz Yurai denim, a slubby Indigo x Indigo fabric featuring a natural indigo-dyed cobalt blue weft. Woven on vintage shuttle looms with a low-tension weave, this fabric offers a breathable yet structured feel, showcasing rich texture, tonal depth, and exceptional fading potential—hallmarks of the Yurai line.

Staying true to the traditional Type II design, the jacket includes pleated front panels and twin chest pockets. The cut has been subtly refined with a slightly elongated body and higher pocket placement, lending a cleaner, more modern fit without losing its vintage roots. The added length allows for the inclusion of hand-warmer pockets at the hips, lined with soft blue gingham cotton for extra comfort and visual interest.

An embroidered “二” (Ni) logo adorns the shoulder—symbolizing “two” in Japanese Kanji. The lower line represents tradition and peace; the upper, strength and forward movement. Rendered in red and blue, it pays homage to the Japanese flag and Tanuki’s identity as master denim craftsmen.

Fit Notes: Although it's a Japanese-made jacket, the sizing of this Tanuki Type II is more Western than traditional Japanese fits—consistent with most Tanuki garments. If you typically wear a size M in American jackets, a size 40 (M) in this model should fit you well. As always, we recommend checking the size chart to ensure the perfect fit. The fabric is unsanforized but one-washed, so no further shrinkage is expected.
