An original leather wax by The Flat Head — developed in collaboration with Shinki Hikaku, the historic Himeji tannery behind the brand's celebrated horsehide jackets.
The Flat Head FN-LWX-04 Original Leather Wax is an in-house leather care product developed in collaboration with Shinki Hikaku — the historic Japanese tannery in Himeji responsible for the horsehide used in The Flat Head's celebrated leather jackets. Designed by the same experts who produce the leather itself, this wax has been formulated to nourish, protect, and refine premium tanned hides across years of daily wear.
The wax is built around two natural ingredients rooted in Japanese tradition. Horse oil (bayu) delivers deep nourishment to the hide, restoring suppleness and reinforcing the leather's natural resilience. This is combined with Mokuro — a traditional Japanese vegetable wax extracted from the berries of the Japanese wax tree (haze) — which adds a soft, natural sheen and helps seal in conditioning oils.
The result is a wax that not only feeds and protects the leather, but also produces a quiet, refined luster that enhances the material's inherent character. Ideal for horsehide, cowhide, and other vegetable-tanned leathers.
The wax is presented in a container with a screw-cap closure, designed to prevent leakage during storage or travel — a small but thoughtful detail that reflects the brand's approach to considered product design.
How to apply: Start by making sure your leather goods are clean and dry, and then test a very small amount of The Flat Head Original Leather Wax on a hidden patch of leather to preview the results. Start with a small amount of profuct (a little goes a long way), and apply it with the sponge, massaging it in circular movements. If you prefer, you can also apply it with your finger. When the leather starts to absorb the balm, lighter shades of leather goods may naturally darken some, but when they are dry they will return to their original shade. Anyway, keep in mind that the more quantity of product you apply, the more it will darken. Reapply The Flat Head Original Leather Wax as necessary to protect, restore and extend the life of your leather goods.
