The UES New Purcara Sweatshirt is a refined evolution of one of the brand’s most distinctive garments, originally produced until 2023 and now reintroduced with subtle but meaningful improvements. Faithful to UES’s philosophy of material-driven design, this sweatshirt is built around an uncommon cotton blend that delivers a dry, bulky, almost wool-like texture rarely found in modern sweatshirts.

The face yarn is spun from a 7:3 blend of Desi cotton and organic cotton from Uganda. Desi cotton, known for its short fibers and natural irregularity, brings structure, volume, and a distinctive dry hand that recalls the feel of wool. The Ugandan organic cotton balances this texture with stability and cohesion, resulting in a fabric that feels robust yet controlled. Because the cotton is hand-harvested, variations in the raw fibers are unavoidable—and intentionally embraced—giving each garment subtle differences and depth of character.

The backing yarn is made from brown cotton sourced from Zimbabwe, adding visual warmth and further texture to the interior. Compared to the previous Purcara Sweatshirt, this updated version uses higher-grade Ugandan organic cotton, resulting in a slightly softer hand while maintaining the same rugged, substantial finish that defines the Purcara series. The differences are especially noticeable in lighter shades such as oatmeal and heather gray, where tone and depth are subtly refined.

Produced on antique knitting machines in Wakayama, Japan, the fabric achieves a dense yet breathable structure that feels reassuring without being stiff. Design details remain timeless and functional, including double inset V-gussets at the neckline, which help relieve stress and preserve shape, and ribbed cuffs and hem that provide durability and long-term wear stability.

The result is a sweatshirt that feels deeply considered—textural, honest, and built to age gracefully. Neither overly soft nor overly rigid, the New Purcara Sweatshirt embodies UES’s commitment to natural materials, traditional manufacturing, and garments that reveal more character with every wear.
