The Viberg Service Boot is a direct descendant of the original model introduced in 1931. This iconic design was adopted by several nations as standard-issue footwear during World War II, though Viberg’s quintessential Service Boot specifically draws inspiration from the Canadian military pattern of that era. The 2040 last has a more traditional profile compared to the 2030, with a slightly roomier forefoot for added comfort.

For this edition, Viberg partnered with the renowned Charles F. Stead tannery, working with Toast Waxy Commander leather in a refined desert sand tone and built with Viberg’s signature Stitchdown construction. Waxy Commander is a waxed bovine suede that delivers a distinctly casual workwear aesthetic while being water-resistant, durable, and easy to care for. Over time, it develops a unique patina, as the natural dyes and waxes embedded in the hide deepen with wear.

Based in Leeds and operating since 1890, Charles F. Stead is one of the oldest and most respected tanneries in the UK. At its peak, Britain had more than 300 tanneries; today, fewer than 30 remain, with Stead standing out as a benchmark for world-class suede production.

The 2040 last offers a semi-anatomical fit: the forefoot is broader to accommodate the ball of the foot, while the waist and heel taper to secure the fit and cup the heel. The slightly elevated toe box creates a subtle “bump,” providing extra room and comfort for the toes during long wear. Built to endure heavy use, these Service Boots feature Dr. Sole Original Half Sole ensuring durability. Despite suede’s reputation for refinement, the waxed finish of Waxy Commander ensures rugged durability. Each pair undergoes over 200 handcrafted steps and must pass stringent quality inspections at Viberg’s workshop in Victoria, Canada.

Finally, the signature double-row stitching, executed entirely by hand through the Stitchdown method, reflects Viberg’s long heritage of producing logging boots for the wet, unforgiving climate of the Pacific Northwest. The turned-out vamp directs water and dirt away, keeping the boot dry and functional in nearly any condition. Each pair is completed with refined 2040 details such as antique brass eyelets, a heel stiffener, and a sturdy leather toe puff.

Fit Notes: All Viberg Service Boots are available in a single E width, and we recommend sizing down one full size from your standard US sneaker size or Brannock measurement. If you have wide feet, consider going down half a size. Viberg sizes fit more closely to uk rather than US sizing.
