The Viberg Service Boot is a direct descendant of the original model, first introduced in 1931. This iconic design was also adopted by various nations as the standard-issue military boot during WWII. However, Viberg's quintessential Service Boot draws its inspiration from the Canadian military's WWII Service Boot pattern. The 2040 last has a slightly more traditional shape than the 2030, and the forefoot feels a bit roomier.

For this exquisite model, Viberg has partnered with Charles F. Stead tannery, using waxy commander leather in a desert sand color and Viberg's signature Stitchdown construction. Waxy commander leather is a type of waxed bovine hide suede that imparts a distinctly casual workwear appearance to your shoes. It is waterproof, extremely resilient, versatile, easy to wear, and even easier to maintain. In the United Kingdom, there are now very few tanneries remaining — a stark contrast from the 300 that once existed, with only about 30 remaining today. Among these, Charles F. Stead in Leeds stands as one of the oldest and most renowned, producing top-quality suede since 1890. Waxy commander leather is among those leathers that age gracefully, developing a unique patina over time, enriched by the dyes and waxes naturally worked into the leather during wear. This leather also boasts excellent natural water-resistant properties.

The fit of this 2040 last is semi anatomical meaning the forefront is wider to allow room across the ball of the foot, while the waist and heel narrow to secure the foot and cup the heel. In addition, the toe box is slightly elevated creating a slight bump, which allows more room for your toes while working.

These Viberg Service Boots are built to withstand rugged wear, thanks to the Ridgeway outsoles, which feature thick, protruding lugs and large ridge channels that offer great traction and stability. Despite suede's reputation for elegance, the high-quality waxed nature of this waxy commander ensures durability is never a concern. Like all Viberg boots, these have undergone over 200 handcrafted steps and passed rigorous quality inspections at Viberg's Victoria workshop.

The signature double-row stitching on this Service Boot is exclusively handcrafted using Viberg's Stitchdown construction method. Viberg has a long and storied history of producing Stitchdown logging boots suitable for the wet, harsh climate of the Pacific Northwest. The turned-out vamp causes water and dirt to be wicked away, preventing moisture from entering the boot and keeping your feet dry in almost any condition. Each pair is finished with the brand's signature 2040 refined details, such as antique brass eyelets, a heel stiffener, and a durable leather toe puff.

Fit Notes: All Viberg Service Boots are available in a single E width, and we recommend sizing down one full size from your standard US sneaker size or Brannock measurement. If you have wide feet, consider going down half a size. Viberg sizes fit more closely to uk rather than US sizing.
